2003 Kids Count Data Book

The Kids Count Data Book is a yearly publication that illuminates the
status of America's children by providing data on the "educational, social,
economic, and physical well-being of children" all across the U.S. On two
of the 10 measures -- the percent of low-birth weight babies and the percent
of families with children headed by a single parent -- nearly all states
fared slightly worse in 1999 than they did in 1990.

As part of the implementation of the 'No Child Left Behind' legislation,
the U.S. Department of Education has added a new "Supplemental Services"
section to its Web site. The new section is designed to link users with
information on how to get extra help for students when needed.
Also included is a newsletter on implementation of the new legislation.

America's Children: Key National Indicators of Well-Being 2003

This is the sixth annual report to the Nation on the condition of children
in America. Eight contextual measures describe the changing population
and family context in which children are living, and 24 indicators depict
the well-being of children in the areas of economic security, health,
behavior and social environment, and education. This year's report
